Dear anole experts,
I recently met this anole on the slopes of Mount Chirripo (Costa Rica), at an altitude of ca. 1300 m, perching on rather low vegetation (agave leaves, small perches…). The dewlap was uniformly yellow.
Is there anyone who knows what species this could be?
Thanks in advance. All best,
Florian Boucher

I don’t know the Costa Rican anoles well, but I think it might be Anolis/Norops/polylepis.

Hi. I agree with Dr. de Queiroz. Did you get a dewlap photo? My experience in this region of Costa Rica has found this dorsal color pattern prevalent along the Pacific versant of the Talamancas. While not 100% diagnostic, the polylepis usually has the greenish lateral line extending from the axilliary region posteriorly. Hope this helps.
Pura vida,

Thanks a lot to both of you for your diagnostic. I got a dewlap photo, but it is of relatively bad quality (see attached).
After years of reading papers on Anoles, it is a shame that I was unable to identify the first I met 😉
Keep on telling us their wonderfull stories!
All best,
Florian

Oops, the picture was obviously not an Anole…
This one should show the dewlap.
